What's it like to co-host Live With Regis? Grace Hargis, the former Orlando TV anchor then known as Grace Rabold, got that shot at superstardom Thursday. , "It was such a special, magical hour," she gushed after the show. "I didn't have time to get nervous." The biggest trauma was persuading her Philly TV bosses to back off their ban on her trying out for Kathie Lee Gifford's gab-fest goldmine. Then came the kind of decision most of us would rather eat stale fruitcake than make: what to wear to a nationally televised job interview. "They didn't want me to look like an anchor, so blazers were out," said Hargis.

"I chose a long black skirt and tur-tleneck with a small silver belt. I wanted it sleek and simple. I didn't want my wardrobe to be the show." She arrived at 7:40 am, sat through 20 minutes in makeup and a 1 5-minute "updo" before getting info on the interviews at 8:45. Yes, the show starts at 9. There's no TelePrompTer.

Everything is on cue cards," said Hargis. "And there's no prep time for you and Regis. They want it to be spontaneous." Regis Philbin walked into Hargis' dressing room about five minutes before, show time to chat. "Fifty seconds before we go on, he walked me Regis Philbin told Grace Hargis formerly of Orlando's Channel 6 that she was 'spectacular' in her tryout as co-host for his show. .from my dressing room, rounded the corner and there we were on live TV," said Hargis.

We'd have freaked and run to Dr. Laura's show for therapy, but the seasoned TV anchor said she clicked into her "on task" mode. "You just talk. It's just a conversation," Hargis said. "All I could do was be me." ' After the show, Philbin told v Hargis he thought she was "spectacular" and hoped she would get to come back.

"I don't know if it was sincere or his way of being nice," Hargis said. "But everyone was very complimentary." Cot a celebrity tip or a comment? Call Leslie's Line at 407-420-5008.
