News About WAVP Tampa Tribune Oct 16, 1963 Sebring By Staff Writer News Service Files Suit Owners of radio station WAVP of Avon Park were named defendants in two lawsuits totaling $6,362.11 filed by the Associated Press Tuesday in Highlands County. The Associated Press claims this is the amount owed them news services contracted for and received by the station. In a suit naming John Wright and Helen Sightler as present owners of WAVP, the press association is asking $4,706.63 plus court costs. The other suit, for the amount of $2,655.48 plus costs, is against the Ridge Broadcasting Company. AP charges that John Wright and Helen Sightler assumed full responsibility for all payments due the Associated Press after June 9, 1962. AP states the agreement was reached on March 6, 1963. The Ridge Broadcasting Company owes for services received from Sept. 9, 1961 until Jan. 26, 1963, the AP claims. The Associated Press is a w news gathering agency with main offices located in New York. The agency supplies news and features to its s members on a contractual basis. |
