Scott
was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1956. He began his career at WNKO-FM
101.7 in Columbus in 1978, using the air name Scott Friedman.
Then it was on to WTHZ-FM 103.1, Tallahassee in 1986, where Scott met his wife
to be, Fran. In 1989, Scott and Fran headed to WXGT-FM 92.3 in
Columbus, Ohio. Then Scott spent a year at WZOU-FM 94.5 in Boston, then on to Orlando and
WOMX-FM 105.1. Scott spent his
first month on the morning show with long-time Orlando personality Alan
Spector. Then on October 29, 1990,
Metro Traffic Services' Erica
Lee joined the "MIX
105.1" morning show as the newscaster. On
January 3, 1991 Scott McKenzie
was named the new morning show host, with then newscaster, Erica
Lee.

nominated as "Personalities Of The Year" by Billboard Magazine. |

Lee have been the
morning team for 16 years. Scott was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1956.

then newscaster, Erica Lee. In 1994, 1995 ands 1996 Scott McKenzie
and Erica Lee were nominated as "Personalities Of The

105.1 co-host of “The
Scott and Erica Show” on will partner again with Scott
McKenzie from 5PM to 8PM on Thursday at "Ember" at
42 W. Central Blvd. in Orlando. Erica, who was fired in January, is
campaigning for 2010 Central Florida Woman of the Year. She hopes to
help raise $50,000 in 10 weeks for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Scott McKenzie Under Hospice Care 8-7-15
WOMX-FM 105.1 morning
host Scott McKenzie has been off the air for a bit over a month. He and
his family have been in Philadelphia attempting to be accepted into a
clinical trial. From Scott's blog at Mix

reason I was in the hospital for so long is that this was our final
viable attempt. With my body so beaten up by cancer and chemo, it
had to work, or we had to face a hard reality." "...Final
healthcare arrangements have been made, and now we begin the focus
on my comfort as I say my goodbyes." "I’m currently hooked
up to an oxygen tank to help me take full breaths, but it’s my
dream to be able to make it back in the studio with the other corny goofballs
for a brief goodbye, and to hold down that microphone “on” switch one
more time." |
Scott McKenzie Passes
8-11-15
Scott McKenzie, morning show host
for 24 years at WOMX-FM 105.1 has lost
his battle with cancer. Scott was 59. He is survived by his wife, Dr.
Fran Lesser Friedman, and his daughter Lauren. MIX 105.1 says Wednesday
morning's show will be in tribute to Scott. Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 10:30 am at Congregation Ohev
Shalom, 613 Concourse Pkwy South, Maitland. McKenzie's family asks that
people consider making donations to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The
Children's Miracle Network and the Coalition for the Homeless of Central
Florida, in lieu of flowers. |
