I
started in December of 1982 at WFIT-FM 89.5
in
Melbourne
. Actually I was recruited. They needed an announcer for a live Blue Grass show
that was being performed in the studio (band and all). They were looking for
someone to thank all the people involved with the broadcast. I was standing
around so they asked me to do it. Soon I was doing 3am-6am on the station. In
1983 I enrolled at UCF in
Orlando
and began working at WUCF-FM 89.9. I had
dreams of a radio career in sports. It was at WUCF where I met and worked
with some wonderfully creative people. John
Martin, News Director. J.C.
Meyerholz, Sports Director. Erica
Engstrom, Kriss Klaus, Cathy Weeden,
Dan
Russo and too many others to name. Over the next three years I held
various student positions at WUCF. Sports Director, Assistant News
Director, News Director. I also interned at WMMA-AM 990 "Magic 99" in
Orlando
. I left WUCF after graduation with a degree in Psychology. In 1986 I
went to WUEZ-AM 1400 in Sanford, for 10 horrible months as News Director. The station was used as a tax write
off for a used car dealership in Reading,
Pennsylvania. It was at WUEZ where I met Program Director Al
Burke. In February 1987 he took several members of the WUEZ staff
with him to WMMY-FM 102.3 in
Melbourne
to start "Y102". I started out as morning news anchor for
"Y102" and its sister station WMMB-AM
1240. I soon realized news was not for me and teamed up with
"Y102" morning man Joe Scott
who was hired from WMEL-AM 920 in
Melbourne. Mark Haney soon joined us and the rest is history. We soon moved on to
WRXK-FM
in
Fort Myers
. For the past 16 years
Fort Myers
has been my home. Five years in the morning with Joe and Haney. 10 years in the
afternoon as the Stan and Haney Show and Last year returning to mornings
with my partner Mark Haney. In 2006 we were named one of the Top 100
morning shows in the country by the goods report a division of talent hunters.
In 2007 I celebrated my 25th year in broadcasting.
