Ron
began his career in 1978 in Massachusetts at WLLH-AM
1400 and WSSH-FM 99.5 as the
engineer and an intern in the Traffic/News Department. In
1997 a move south put Ron at WQAI-AM
1570, Fernandina Beach, Florida. (Editors note: WQAI at one time had

At WQAI Ron was the Co-Host of the "Bargain Hunter's Radio
Show" as well as, station Engineer, Producer, DJ at "First Coast
Country". By 1998 Ron moved over to "Island Radio 1570" as Rocky
W. Shore on WHYI-AM 1570, Fernandina Beach. Another move in 1999 brought Ron to "Music
of Your Life" WGSR-AM 1570 also in Fernandina
Beach as an engineer, producer and personality Rocky W. Shore. 2003 saw a
move to Jacksonville's WGSR-AM 970, then back to Fernandina Beach
and WNNR-AM 1570. In 2005, Rocky W. Shore joined the crew at WFBO-FM
93.3 as on air talent and engineering tech. In 2007 Ron joined WNZF-AM
1550/FM 106.3 as News Director and Technical Engineering Director. |
Ron “Charles” Gitschier Passes 11-11-18 Ron Charles (Gitschier) passed away at the age of 56 on Nov. 7, 2018. Ron built Flagler County's first radio station WNZF-AM 1550/FM 106.3 10 years ago. Ron was a proud retired Navy veteran of 23 years, according to the news release, and moved to Flagler County in 2003. “Ron was heard on the "WNZF Local Morning News" every day for the past 10 years,” Flagler Broadcasting Vice President/General Manager David Ayres said. "There’s a thousand things that can wrong with four radio stations and Ron always kept things running smooth. As a radio reporter he had great relationships and liked everybody he met. Ron was also instrumental in keeping all four radio stations on the air during severe storms and hurricanes. Our entire staff is devastated over this sudden loss. Everybody who knew Ron loved him and he will be greatly missed.” Services for Ron Charles are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 18, at Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach, with a 1PM reception and a 3PM service.
