"When
I was just a kid, a fellow by the name of Dave
Edwards from WKKO(-AM 860) came to
my church youth group to speak in 1973. This was weird because he was using my
name! It was there that I "caught the bug". Dave left for WIVY-FM in
Jacksonville and I begged Gabe Burton
to let this 14 year old kid sit in the studio of WKKO-AM 860
Cocoa
with him. I then lied to Rick Ryder,
PD, at KKO a couple weeks later telling him that I had been in a station
for a while. Well, I did walk in the station for a couple hours. He hired me to
do Sunday mornings playing tapes and eventually weekends from ’74-‘75. How
cool…turning on and off the transmitters and everything. I went to WRKT-AM
1300 / WRKT-FM 104.1 Cocoa Beach where
we simulcast. I did several stints weekends, mid nights, and evenings. I was
hired by Ben Hill, PD and got to
work with the likes of some great and talented guys…
Jim Sumpter, Music Director, Jim
“Double Bubble” Pierce, “Brother
Dave” Vasser, and “Crazy
Mike” Kessler from ’75-’77. I can never thank these guys enough.
It was during this time that I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ and moved
to Don Gould’s old stomping grounds, WEZY-AM
1350 / WEZY-FM 99.3, also known as "Y-135"
in Cocoa from ’77-’78 while attending college. I helped to start WCIF-FM
106.3 Melbourne being the first announcer on the new Christian station
from ’79-’80. I got out of radio and worked two years as a deputy with the Brevard
County Sheriff’s Department to finish my BS in Business at the
University
of Central Florida.
Then it was off to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas
where I received my Masters in Divinity. After over two decades of being a
Pastor, believe it or not I still have the bug every once in a while and have to
put the old
Stantons
(headphones) on my head."
Jul 2010-"My family and I recently moved to
DeLand
,
FL
to being serving as the Pastor of Administration/Senior Adults at Stetson
Baptist
Church. Glad to be back in central FL where it all started in radio."
