History of WWJZ
In January of 1983 WTRR would become WWJZ. As well as the call letter change came a format change from Modern Country to
the "Happy Days Sound" of oldies. It was thought at the time that this was a reaction to WDBO-FM 92.3's recent format switch to Country music and change of call letters to WWKA-FM 92.3. But according to morning man Lee Bernard told the Orlando Sentinel "...the decision to go with oldies was made before the WDBO-changeover news broke." Bill Burgess is the General Manager at WWJZ who was also the GM at WHHL-AM 1190.
