Another One Bites The Dust     1-2-09
Rama Communications Leesburg station WQBQ-AM 1410 has been silent since December 8. 
Word is WQBQ-AM 1410 is still on the air. The detailed info is; in November Rama has filed an application for a Special Temporary Authority to remain silent due to transmitter problems, for a period of  60 days or until repairs can be made to the transmitter. 


Fennessy Named As WIXC GM

Genesis Communications, Inc announces the hiring of Kevin Fennessy as General Manager for WIXC AM 1060 in Melbourne-Titusville. Fennessy, a veteran broadcaster with management duties from great radio stations, such as WFIL-Philadelphia, WHAM-Rochester and WKBW-Buffalo.


WELE Appoints K.P. Manning

Mark Tillery, General Manager of WELE-AM 1380 appoints K.P. Manning as Program Director/Systems Manager.


New Hispanic Program Coming
    1-7-09
WNZF-AM 1550 / WNZF-FM 106.3 will bring a Hispanic news/talk program to Flagler county beginning January 18. Gustavo Ramos will host the program called "Buenos Dias Flagler"


Wake Up Daytona Celebrates

Doug Kosarek, Dave Laing and Mark Williams celebrate two years on the morning show "Wake Up Daytona" on WNDB-AM 1150. Congratulations guys!


Brantley Slaughter Passes

Hal Marston informs us that Brantley Slaughter has passed. Mr. Slaughter's career included a time as Chief Engineer for WORJ-FM 107.7. From Mr. Marston's email: "...Brantley Slaughter passed away on January 6, 2009. What a great guy!  Brantley will be deeply missed.  Brantley's contributions to the community are innumerable as were his acts of kindness to others.  He was involved in local schools, charities, churches, government and civic improvement causes.  Many of us called him fondly the “Oracle of Orange County” because of his civic activism and desire to help those less fortunate than himself. We will miss his buoyant wit, keen intellect and huge heart.  Brantley Slaughter lived for others and died at age 78.


Programming Changes Coming

Beginning January 19 Paul Harvey morning news, Paul Harvey News and Comment and The Rest of the Story return to Daytona Beach on WELE-AM 1380. Paul Harvey morning news will air at 8:30AM with Paul Harvey News and Comment airing daily at 12:30PM. The Rest of the Story will follow ABC Entertainment News weekday afternoons at 4:05PM.


Mancow Comes To Central Florida

WAMT-AM 1190 began airing the syndicated Mancow show this morning from 6AM-9AM. The station also began carrying the full 3 hour Laura Ingraham show from 9AM-Noon. Other recent changes include the additions of Roger Hedgecock from 6PM-9PM and The Fox Radio Network’s Tom Sullivan from Midnight-3AM. WAMT also carries Bill O’Reilly from Westwood One and The Dave Ramsey Show. 


Genesis Shuffles The Deck

The Sports Section with Marc Ryan" have been moved from it's home on WAMT-AM 1190 to WHOO-AM 1080.


Marc Bernier Celebrates

WNDB-AM 1150's Marc Bernier will celebrate 18 years on the air in Daytona Beach on Wednesday. Congratulations Marc!


Clear Channel Cuts Talent

Clear Channel has handed pink slips to WJRR-FM 101.1's Launa. At one time Launa was part of the morning show with  Taco Bob and Pat Lynch, known as The Fiasco. On the AM side, WQTM-AM 740's Maria Isabel has been shown the door.


Sports Return to 740

Clear Channel Communications will reincarnate "740 The Team" on WQTM-AM 740. Currently 740 is programmed as part of the "La Preciosa Network", which began last January. The new lineup is not set. 


Do Over For Orlando

The ratings service Arbitron has notified subscribers that three diaries were attributed to "an unlicensed station." So Arbitron will reissue the book on Feb. 2. Credit was initially awarded to WHOG-FM 95.7 in the Orlando book, but it turned out the reported listening was to a pirate station.


Break Out The Birthday Cake  1-31-09
Erica Lee, one half of WOMX-FM 105.1's morning team of Scott and Erica will celebrate a birthday on Monday, February 2. Happy Birthday Ms. Lee! 


Buckethead
Saves A Life  1-31-09
WOFL-TV 35 is reporting that WTKS-FM 104.1's Buckethead (Jason Bailey) helped save the life of a suicidal man. The anonymous caller told Buckethead he wasn’t sure if he wanted to kill himself and didn’t know what to do. The caller dubbed "Bill" was taken to an area hospital and is doing fine. Here is the audio of that call.

Liz Litterello
Returns

Paul Walker lets us know that Liz Litterello will join WIXC-AM 1060 as News Anchor. Liz was Producer/Call Screener for Bill Mick on WMMB-AM 1240/WMMV-AM 1350. Liz also hosted "Daybreak with Liz Litterello" and "Coffee Talk" on WMEL-AM 920 as well as "The Space Coast Speaks" on WINT-AM 1560.
