William
“Bill” Barber passed away on April 9, 2025 at AdventHealth
Hospice Care in Orlando, in the very building where he was born on
September 7, 1951 when the hospital was called Florida Sanitarium.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Orlando. Bill
had an early interest and passion for radio and music. His radio
career began at the age of 13 at WFIV-AM
1080 in Kissimmee. His first paid radio
job was in Clermont, at WSLC-AM 1340 when he was 14. He was so determined
and dedicated to his mission, that if his mother couldn’t take
him, he would ride a motor scooter out to Clermont for his Sunday
morning 2 hour time slot. He
obtained experience at various stations until he joined WLOF-AM 950 in
Orlando as “Billy The Kid”. He went on to WBJW-FM 105.1 FM doing mornings
and later became program director. He spent several years at WWKA-FM
92.3 " K92 FM" in
Orlando before going on to WEBG 100.3
FM.
Bill
is survived by his daughter, Mary and his grandchildren, Leah Rumpf
and Michael Rumpf. His wit, humor and charm will be missed by
his family, close radio pals, special former childhood classmates and
enduring friends. Bill's family wishes to convey the deepest gratitude
to AdventHealth Hospice for their exceptional attention and support.
