WQTM Will Continue UCF Broadcasts    1-1-08
Even with the format change on WQTM-740 AM "La Preciosa" UCF basketball and baseball games will continue to air on 740.


Jim Rome Returns

Premiere Network’s Jim Rome has been added to the WHOO-AM 1080,Orlando and WIXC-AM 1060, Melbourne lineups beginning Monday, January 7th. Rome will air live from Noon to 2PM, Monday through Friday. The Genesis station lineups continue to carry Mike and Mike, Colin Cowherd, Mike Tirico and The Brady Ackerman Show each day. 


O-Rock Begins Stunting

At 10AM this morning (Friday Jan. 4) WOCL-FM 105.9 began playing "The History of Rock and Roll". Stay tuned...
10:45AM Scott Maxwell is reporting that a staff meeting was to take place this morning at 9AM. Drew Garabo and Savannah were absent from the station this morning. 
11:30AM Drew Garabo posts the news on his blog at myspace.com.
Everyone but Program Director Bobby Smith was let go from O-Rock.

Doug Kosarek and Wake Up Daytona is celebrating one year on the air today at WNDB-AM 1150. The rest of the morning crew includes Dave Laing, news from WNDB news director, "Mr. News" Mark Williams as well as commentaries from afternoon talker Marc Bernier. Happy Anniversary Doug and crew!


WSBB Eliminates Staff

Kris Earl Philips and Cadillac Jack were let go by the new owner of WSBB-AM 1230 on Friday Jan. 4, 2007. New owner
Skip Diegel of Diegel Communications is the former General Manager of WVLG-AM 640 in the Villages. WSBB will continue the Westwood One satellite oldies format.

WMEL Will Move Up The Dial

WMEL-AM 920 owner John Harper will move the WMEL call letters up the dial to 1300 AM. It will become "The Talk to Me Station, AM 1300 WMEL". Sean Hannity as well as Michael Savage and the rest of the crew will remain on board.

Over at "Sunny 105.9", WOCL-FM 105.9, a familiar voice to Orlando oldies fans-Bob Berry is pulling the afternoon drive shift. You may remember Bob from his time at WSHE-FM 100.3 "Cool 100" and "Big 100" WEBG-FM 100.3

Local Sports Talk Comes To Melbourne

"The Hustle" a new local sports talk show airs on Saturdays at 1:00 PM on WMEL-AM 920. The hosts are Dave Randall, Jimmy Bonenberger, and Terry Henderson. The producer will be Jim Martin. The four friends have a long history of growing up and playing sports together in Brevard and Indian River Counties.  Bonenberger and Henderson played baseball at Brevard Community College and Florida State University.

According to Cflradio.net "SUNNY" was used very briefly back in 1985 when then (101.9 WCFI) ran an AC Format on TransStar Satellite Network...as SUNNY 102, that was very short lived the station did another short stint as a ROCKER (Z-102) WORZ before becoming Urban 102 JAMZ (WJHM) in '88...of course CBS Now owns WJHM which is entering it's 20th year as a successful Urban Outlet. CBS also owns WOMX (Mix 105.1) and from what I have read the Mix PD is also the interim PD of WOCL.


UCF Baseball
Will Be WQTM-AM 740

A total of 19 regular-season home games, as well as all postseason events, will be aired on WQTM-AM 740 in Orlando. Marc Daniels, the "Voice of the Knights," is set to call all of the action from the press box. Every UCF baseball game will feature a 15 minute pregame show, hosted by Daniels. WJRR Changes

As we reported on Friday, WJRR-FM 101.1 have let Pat Lynch and Taco Bob go. Starting Monday, Crash will handle morning drive, Launa will take mid-days and the BS (Buckethead Show) will continue to air in afternoons. Sloar, who comes from 98 Rock/Tampa WXTB-FM 97.9, will handle the evening shift.


Salem Orlando Names General Manager

David Koon has been named General Manager for  Salem Orlando, which includes News Talk WORL-AM 660, Life Changing Radio WTLN-AM 950, and WHIM-AM 1520. "We are fortunate to be able to enlist the talents of a tried and true radio veteran like David Koon for  leadership in our Orlando cluster," said Alan Power, vice president of operations for Salem Communications. "Orlando is a very dynamic market and the experience he brings to our stations will help optimize the impact we have there with our audiences."

Sports Talk On WTKS?

With the format change at WQTM-AM 740, Clear Channel needed to find a home for the NFL playoffs. They did, WTKS-FM 104.1. Also new to the Sunday line-up a sports themed talk show hosted by Jack Bradshaw of the "Philips Phile" and Cabin Boy from the "Shannon Burke Show". "2 Guys, 1 Sports Show" airs from noon-2PM. 


Spanish Language News For Morning Drive Radio

FRN Hispania, a division of Florida's Radio Network,  is offering Spanish language news for morning drive. They are offering three packages for Spanish language stations. The "Florida Only" newscast is designed for stations who already have a national/international newscast from another provider and need supplemental Florida news. "Florida Plus" is a capsule newscast that includes national, international, as well as Florida news. The "FRN Hispania Headlines" package is a one minute capsule of national, international, and Florida news delivered in an upbeat style.  


WMEL Is Moving - Is Everyone Going Along?

WMEL-AM 920 will become WMEL-AM 1300 in March. We were told "...Sean Hannity as well as Michael Savage and the rest of the crew will remain on board..."  Clear Channel's Operations Director Ken Holiday says not so fast.  WMMB-AM 1240 / WMMV-AM 1350 says they have a contract with ABC Radio Networks, which syndicates Hannity's show, to air the Sean Hannity Show. According to John Harper of WMEL,  Bill O'Reilly and Michael Savage are staying on WMEL-AM 1300 after the move.


Marc Bernier Celebrates 17 Years

Jerry O'Neill Joins Brady Ackerman

Beginning next week Jerry O'Neill, formerly of WQTM-740-AM and then WFLF-AM 540, will be joining Brady Ackerman on WHOO-AM 1080 afternoons from 3PM-6PM.

After the switch at WQTM-AM 740, the Jim Rome show had no home in Central Florida.
WHOO-AM 1080 has picked up the show from Noon-2pm.


Jody and Scott Petitioning For Morning Slot

Scott Maxwell at the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Jody & Scott formerly at WOCL-FM 105.9 have been urging their fans to write Clear Channel executives letters to put them on the morning show vacated by Pat Lynch and Taco Bob. Scott promises more in his column tomorrow.


WKZY Moves To Hot AC

WKZY-FM 106.9 Program Director, Matt "the Brat" Derrick, has completed the transition of the format from '80s to Hot Adult Contemporary. Matt joined the station in November of 2007 coming from KNGY-FM 92.7 in San Francisco and will do afternoons.  "BJ" is now doing mornings while mid-days will be handled by Kevin McKay.  Nights are being filled with the syndicated Jayne-FM show.

Paco Lopez Returns

Paco Lopez part of the "102 Jamz"  Wake-Up Posse at WJHM-FM 101.9 has returned to Orlando. He joins WNUE-FM 98.1 as an Account Executive. Lopez was the Assistant Program Director/Music Director and afternoon talent at  WSNA-FM 94.1 in Memphis. He also did afternoons at WNEW-FM 102.7 in New York and was Program Director/mornings at WJBT-FM 93.3 in Jacksonville. 


New Radio Station Tower

Marc Tyll reports that a new 427-foot radio tower soon will rise in the community of Romeo to broadcast a new station. WFBI-FM 99.3 is licensed to the town of Inglis. Romeo is in Marion County, in the Ocala metro area. Flinn Broadcasting purchased the rights to the frequency at a Federal Communications Commission auction for $880,000. Attorney Steve Gray represented the property owners Jeffrey and Betty Allen. Flinn Broadcasting plans to have the tower up by August 2008. The tower is designed to fold in half, should it fall, which means it would not land on something beyond 213.5 feet away.

Former WWKA-FM 92.3 morning host Ellis B. Feaster has been named as part of the morning show on WPOZ-FM 88.3. Ellis will team with with Tyler McKenzie. Ellis and Tyler worked together before at "K92" when Melissa Moore was out on maternity leave.

Hannity And Ingraham Swapping Stations In Brevard

You may need a score card to keep track of the changes about to take place between WMEL-AM 920 and WMMB-AM 1240. As we reported on January 18, WMEL-AM 920 will be moving up the dial to 1300 AM. Not all of the current talk programming will be moving with them however. Sean Hannity will move from WMEL to WMMB and Laura Ingraham will move to WMEL from WMMB beginning tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 1). Also beginning Friday, Mark Levin will follow Hannity while Dennis Miller will be heard fro 8pm-11pm. WMEL will pick up Phil Valentine from 9pm-10pm and Rusty Humphries at 10pm.
