The owner/host of WELE-AM 1380 is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 5. Doug Wilhite will appear before a seventh circuit court judge to enter a plea. Wilhite was arrested earlier this month following a Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigation. The investigation of the 56-year-old has been accused of engaging is sex acts with a teenage boy multiple times. According to the arrest report, Mr. Wilhite said he was a nudist and allowed teenage boys to come to his house while he was nude. Wilhite went on to claim that the victim had made sexual advances toward him, but that Wilhite never touched the boy sexually. However, Wilhite said he did allow the victim and his friends to come over to his house and have sex, including in his presence. He also said that he offered to provide video equipment to the victim and his friends if they wanted to film themselves naked. Also in the report, Mr. Wilhite said he offered one teenage boy money to engage in sexual acts with another boy. |
Wilhite Enters Written Pleas 8-5-09 Defense attorney David Damore, representing radio station WELE-AM 1380 owner Doug Wilhite, filed the pleas with the Clerk of Court's office on Tuesday, allowing his client to avoid making an appearance in court. The case will be placed on a pre-trial docket. The charges are; sexual activity with a minor and lewd and lascivious molestation of a person over the age of 12, but under 16, both are felonies. |

Kicks For Guns Happening Friday 8-11-09 "Kicks for Guns" will happen this year on Friday, August 14. WTKS-FM 104.1 morning host Russ Rollins of "The Monsters" created the event 10 years ago. Russ persuaded local stores and athletes to donate high-priced sports shoes for the "Kicks for Guns" swap. "Kicks" is slang for "shoes." At the time, kids were committing violent crimes for high-priced sneakers. The Orlando Police Department will be at the Citrus Bowl, 1610 W. Church St. from 7AM until 6PM. The Kissimmee Police Department will hold the event at 2211 W. Bob Andrews Update 8-24-09 Bob announced on WLBE-AM 790, his semi-retirement from radio this afternoon. Due to health concerns he will no longer be hosting the morning show that he has hosted for the past 10 years, called "The Breakfast Club". Bob said he would be back once in a while to host a program. Thanks to Bill Andrews for this update. "Bob came home from hospital Thursday feeling very upbeat and wanting to go back to work...No longer has the MRSA infection and morphine is taking care of all his hurts. Bob will be on the air today after the noon news on WLBE-AM 790 to explain the situation to all his listeners and hopes to start back with his regular program the following week.
