Tomorrow, Wednesday, two good friends of this website will celebrate birthdays. Dick Camnitz  aka WLOF-AM 950's Dick Shane, as well as WHOO-AM 990 and WBAR-AM 1440's Dick Shannon and from Britain, a frequent visitor to central Florida and an expert on WBJW-FM 105.1 as well as WOMX-FM 105, Clive Hayward.  

Gene Burns Suffer Minor Stroke    1-3-12
Gene Burns, who was fired from KGO-AM 810 was to begin his new show on KNEW-AM 910 today but his debut has been moved to next week as he is recovering from a mild stroke. 

John Boy And Billy Come To Gainesville    1-4-12
"The Big Show with John Boy and Billy" has come to WXOF-FM 96.3 mornings.

Correction: Gene Burns   1-4-12
It was reported on more than one site that Gene Burns had suffered a minor stroke. He did not. Gene has been in fragile health for the past year, and has a medical condition. According to one of his assistants, it is nothing as serious as a stroke. Get well Gene!


Copper Caper Knocks Another Station Off the Air     1-6-12
Another Central Florida station was knocked off the air this week as copper thieves scaled the walls of WPUL-AM 1590 Thursday night and stole 50 feet of copper. The station is in 50-year-old building, a site on Daytona Beach's Black Heritage Trail.  WPUL, is the only Black-owned and operated radio station in the area.

WKTO Has New Tower     1-6-12
General Manager, Carol Henry of WKTO-FM 88.9 has announced the completion of their new 410 foot tower on Omega Ranch Road, just off State Road 44. Their signal now reaches Brevard, Flagler, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties.

Clear Channel Changes Name    1-13-12
Clear Channel Radio will now be called Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. Clear Channel CEO Bob Pittman explained the reason for the name change. "...Clear Channel Radio has pushed beyond the traditional boundaries of radio to reach more Americans every month than any other media company through an unmatched combination of broadcast, satellite, online, and mobile assets..."


WAMT,  WIXC To Simulcast Tampa's WWBA     1-18-12
Genesis Communications I will "create a virtual Central Florida news network" by simulcasting their programming of their Tampa station WWBA-AM 820 on WAMT-AM 1190 and WIXC-AM 1060. Talk Radio Network supplies "America's Morning News" as well as America's Radio News Network newscasts.

 WAMT-AM 1190 has picked up CBS Radio News. Reporter Peter King will be heard once again in Orlando.


New Morning Co-host At K92     1-24-12
Cox Media Group Orlando, has announced a new morning show co-host at WWKA-FM 92.3. Joining Grace will be AJ Maguire. AJ comes to Orlando from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Jay Love Has Left The Building     1-27-12
Eighteen year veteran Jay Love has left WJHM-FM 101.9. 
1-28-12 We asked Jay for an his side of the story. He was kind enough to tell us; "The same speech of moving in a different direction which they are, and I am not part of that new change they are needing. I plan to seriously look at all opportunities from television and radio stations if and when they are presented. Until then I'm gonna work on my outside promotional ventures I've established".

WLOF-AM 950 Commercial Manager/Public Affairs Director Nickie Sarner has died. Nickie became director of community affairs at WCPX-Channel 6, and media specialist for the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

More Moves At Jamz    1-30-12
"Moving in a different direction" that must be the mantra at WJHM-FM-101.9. Jay Love has been shown the door and now the syndicated Rickey Smiley Show which aired in the morning has also been dropped.  


WINT Returns To The Air    1-31-12
Thanks to Jack Rhine for letting us know that after being knocked off the air by copper thieves back on February 25, 2011, WINT-AM 1560 returned to the air on Jan. 26, 2012.
