WMFE
Takes A Big Hit 2-3-09
Always great to hear
from Pat Flannagan. She
has let us know the latest from WMFE. The economic crisis continues to hit
radio hard.
From a press release from WMFE-FM
90.7 "... revenue sources have felt the impact of the economic slowdown.
The only way for WMFE to offset all of these losses is to reduce its expense
budget..." "...WMFE will
be canceling WMFE-TV’s The Arts Connection and laying off its
staff of six, laying off an additional nine positions, and eliminating one
vacant position. Additionally, WMFE’s remaining staff will be required
to take two weeks of unpaid leave (furlough) during this fiscal year, and the
employer matching 401K funds have been eliminated for the foreseeable future."
The host of The Arts Connection, Secily Wilson,
and WMFE-FM’s Dave Glerum, an 18-year employee and music director
have been let go.
