Alan Spector Joins Virtual News Center

Virtual News Center, an independent provider of local news for radio stations around the country, has announced Alan Spector has joined the staff. Alan is well known to Central Florida Radio listeners and has an extensive news background. Alan has served as news director for three different stations in Orlando and won awards from the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters and the Greater Orlando Press Club.

Duling Named Chicago PD    7-13-11
JJ Duling has been named as Program Director at WRXQ-FM 100.7.and WSSR-FM 96.7 in Chicago. 


WLOQ On The Selling Block    7-13-11
Gross Communications owners of family owned WLOQ-FM 103.1 has signed a purchase agreement with New York based TTB Media Corporation. The sale price is $8,037,000. TTB Media is run by Eran Schreiber. According to Radio Info.com "...the ultimate buyer as “Lindemann Capital Partners LP.” Adam Lindemann was the principal of the former Mega Communications group that specialized in running Spanish formats along the east coast."  TTB begins a LMA on August 1.


Orlando Weekly Names Best Local Personalities    7-14-11
WTKS-FM 104.1's afternoon host Jim Philips has been named as 2011's Best Local Radio Personality. Second place goes to Johnny Magic and the departed Jayde Donovan. At number 3 Real Radio strikes again with Soul Brother Kevin.

Brooks And The Gator Part Company   7-16-11
WRUF-FM 103.7 Program Director/Afternoon host Ron Brooks and co-host and wife Audrey Lynn have left the building. Ron is replaced by JJ Thomas (Jerry Butler). Butler is a 23 year veteran. In 2007 he earned a Country Music Association Award nomination for small market radio personality of the year, and in 2008 was a Marconi Award finalist for small market radio personality. We reported on June 30, that Laura Diaz, former WKMG-TV news anchor would likely become the new co-host of the morning show on
WXXL-FM 106.7. Well, it's official Lady Laura Diaz has become the female member of "Johnny's House with Laura and Brian".

WEUS Bids Goodbye To WLOQ     7-21-11
WEUS-AM 810, "The Big 810 AM", salutes Central Florida heritage Smooth Jazz station WLOQ-FM 103.1 with a promo airing this week called “Goodbye, WLOQ.” Independently-owned WEUS-AM mourns the loss of another independent station in the Central Florida market. WLVF Is No More   7-24-11
The FCC has deleted the WLVF-AM 930 call sign and license. WLVF went silent on August 30, 2010, due to the loss of the station's transmitter site. 

On The Road To NYC     7-25-11
Michelle Murillo will be heading to New York's WEMP-FM 101.9 as a reporter, beginning August 1.

Happy birthday to former WTRR-AM 1400 Program Director, Rick Padilla who celebrates #56 on Sunday. Blowing out the candles on Monday will be WOCL-FM 105.9's Jack Dyer, better known as Elvis Gorbechev, who turns 66. And to the man who told us everyday on WKIS-AM 740 to "Press on regardless", Russ Wheeler celebrates his 76th on Monday. Happy birthday to you all. 

WBVD Becomes WFKS    7-30-11 
Melbourne's WBVD-FM 95.1 has become WFKS-FM 95.1. The Clear Channel owned call letters formerly belonged to a Jacksonville top 40 station. The new call letters better match with the 97.9 Kiss FM slogan.
