"Goliath Radio" To Become "The Cat" 2-4-15 Bethune-Cookman University, the new owner of Holly Hill's WELE-AM 1380, has announced the appointment of Larry Steele as Operations Manager. Larry comes from WTMP-AM 1150 in Tampa. He also spent 7 years as Station Manager and Sports Director at WPUL-AM 1130. The new slogan will become "1380 The Cat"; "Community Action Talk Radio". |
Shadow Returns To WPOZ 2-4-15 Shadow Stevens (Rod Grant) has returned to WPOZ-FM 88.3. He'll be sitting in for the next two weeks for Ellis Feaster who is on vacation. Shadow had joined JVC Media's WOTW-FM 103.1 in December of 2014 as program director. |
WELE Looking To Hire 2-6-15 Larry Steele, the new Operations Manager at WELE-AM 1380, has told All Access that he is looking for an Assistant Operations Manager. "This Historically Black University has a rich history of excellence. I am looking for the best person to assist me in helping to put WELE 1380 The Cat in a position to help Mass Communications students learn how a commercial radio station operates. While students get on the job training, the goal is also to have our station deal with issues which address the entire community. BC-U's President Dr. Edison O. Jackson has set the bar for excellence at a high level for this University and I need a quality person to assist in meeting those standards and make this a powerhouse station." |
Rick Namey Passes 2-7-15 Richard "Rick" Namey died Jan 26 after a heart attack. He was 66. Rick worked at WORJ-FM 107.7 in the mid 1970's, in 1991 he joined WJPB-AM 1220 in Kissimmee where he was President of Kissimmee Broadcasting Corporation, Inc. Namey was a character. He worked as "Magic Max" on WMJK-AM 1220 where he would, among other things, perform card tricks and use sleight of hand on the radio. In Memory |
Phil Kincaid Returns 2-8-15 Marc Bernier has announced the return of “Dr. Phil” Kincaid as the Executive Producer of "The Marc Bernier Show" weekdays 3PM-6PM on WNDB-AM 1150/FM 93.5. Phil will also produce the weekly shows “BookMarc” Saturdays at 9AM, “Weekend Around The House,” Saturday 7AM-9AM and the quarterly editions of “The Marc Bernier Restaurant Show.” Saturdays 8AM-12noon |

Programming changes happening include the end of "Mid-Day Volusia" with Paul Carpenella and "The Via Report" with Roland Via has been cancelled as well as Via's Sat. show which included Gary Libby and "Culture Comes Alive". |

The Hog Looking To Increase Coverage Area 2-16-15 WHOG-FM 95.7 has applied to the FCC for an increase in power and move from a Class C3 to Class C2. The change would increase from power from 25kw to 48kw. "The Hog" is owned by Southern Stone Communications. |

Veteran Morning Host Gone 2-21-15 WAOA-FM 107.1 morning man, for the past twenty two years, Timmy Vee has left the station. Florida Today reports Vee turned in his resignation this past Thursday. According to Program Director Terry Simmons, Vee had not been on the air last week and has hired attorney Mark Warzecha. Cumulus is looking for a new co-host for Cheree Carter. |
