NSSA  Radio  Takes To The Internet Air    7-4-10
Dr. Larry Flegle recently put National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and Hall of Fame "on the air" (Internet) at http://www.live365.com/stations/nssaradio?site=pro.  Voices you will regularly hear on NSSA  Radio are Vin Scully, Eli Gold, Bob Costas, Marty Brenneman, Gene Deckerhoff and Jim Nantz and many, many others.

WLBE Takes A Hit    7-13-10
The transmitter at WLBE-AM 790, Leesburg was struck by lightening on July 5. The station has been off the air since. Repairs are expected to be completed soon and the 63 year old station will be back on the air. In other WLBE news, O.K. Walters will be joining as Sales Manager with plans to become General Manager in the near future.


Black Crow Gets 120 Days    7-14-10
Black Crow Media, owners of Central Florida stations, WVYB-FM 103.3, WKRO-FM 93.1, WHOG-FM 95.7 and WNDB-AM 1150, has been given an additional 120 days to file a reorganization plan. In the meantime the judge has ordered mediation to try to resolve the differences between Black Crow and lender, GE Capital.


Jim Philips Re-ups     7-14-10
Scott Maxwell of the Orlando Sentinel in his "Taking Names" column is reporting that Jim Philips and WTKS-FM 104.1 have come to terms on a three year contract. Also Scott's segment on the Phile is moving to
Wednesday afternoons at 5:50PM.


WLBE Returns To The Air     7-15-10
Good news for Lake county listeners. After being struck by lightening back on July 5, WLBE-AM 790 is back on the air. 

Alex Diaz Is Back     7-15-10
Alex Diaz returns to Orlando radio on a part-time basis at WOMX-FM 105.1.

Orlando Weekly Magazine's Best of Orlando 2010     7-15-10
Orlando Weekly Magazine has named WTKS-FM 104.1's Jim Philips as the "Best Local Radio Personality" and "Best Local Big Shot". Others in the radio category are; 2nd: Johnny Magic and 3rd: Jayde both of the WXXL-FM 106.7 morning show. Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell came in as "Best Local Writer".

WOCA Goes 24 Hours
   7-22-10
WOCA-AM 1370 Ocala commenced 24-hour operation today, Thursday, July 22, with a variety of night-time and overnight quality talk programming. "Rounding-out" the broadcast day, WOCA has added financial guru, Clark Howard and other night-time programs and has been home to Rush Limbaugh since 1989 and also broadcasts Sean Hannity. The audio stream can be heard over the internet at www.woca.com.

Movin' On Up...In More Ways Than One   7-23-10
WOMX-FM 105.1 night time personality
Melony Torres, is moving on up to Jacksonville's WAPE-FM 95.1 and moving up from nights to middays.

Beth Brightwell Leaving For WSM    7-24-10
WTRS-FM 102.3 morning co-host of the "Dave, Beth and Bo Morning Show", Beth Brightwell, will join morning man Rick Marino on the "Wake Up With The Wolf Show" on Nashville's legendary WSM-FM 95.5 on July 26.

Happy Happy Birthday     7-24-10
Birthday wishes go out to former WJRR-FM 101.1 Fiasco co-host Taco Bob, who turns 39 on Tuesday. Pete Simonson and Peter King celebrate on Friday and Rick 93 turns 55 on Saturday. Happy birthday to you all!

Bought And Sold   7-26-10
All Access is reporting, in a deal not yet filed with the FCC, George S. Flinn has sold WXJB-FM 99.9 to Steve Manuel's Hernando Broadcasting Co. which also owns WWJB-AM 1450.

Downtown Billy Brown Heads To Tampa   7-27-10
WOCL-FM 105.9's Downtown Billy Brown is headed to Tampa and Country WFUS-FM 103.5. Billy will be replacing Erik Tomlin as Assistant Program Director/Music Director. 

Correction: WOGF Is Still Talk   7-27-10
We reported yesterday that WIFL-FM 104.3 was about to change calls and become a country music station. We got the part about the call letters right, but WOGF-FM 104.3 will continue as a talk outlet. Thanks to
Sab Cupelli, President of Nature Coast Broadcasting, Inc. for keeping us straight.  

Budget And Personnel Cuts At WIXC    7-27-10
Due to budget cuts at WIXC-AM 1060, Program Director/Morning Host Liz Litterello has been let go from that position. Liz will continue her Sunday program "Coffee Talk" from 8AM-9AM each week.

Phil Hendrie Joins WEUS Line-up    7-27-10 
The Phil Hendrie Show has joined the schedule on WEUS-AM 810. Hendrie, whose career began at WBJW-AM 1440 is heard from 1AM-6AM Monday-Friday.

WIFL Becomes "Froggy 104"    7-26-10
Along with the new moniker of "Froggy 104" WIFL-FM 104.3 in Inglis has changed call letters to WOGF. The format goes from Talk to Modern Country.  Also, Sab Cupelli, President of Nature Coast Broadcasting, Inc. has filed an application with the FCC to transfer WOGF to a new ownership entity - Florida Radio USA, LLC, also owned and controlled by Cupelli. In other words this is a paper change in licensee while the radio station is still owned and controlled by Cupelli.

Generations Broadcasting Corporation Purchases WOCA    7-29-10
Westshore Broadcasting Inc. has sold WOCA-AM 1370 to Generations Broadcasting Corporation. The $265,000 sales price is comprised of a $30,000 escrow deposit payable in cash at closing and submission of a $235,000 promissory note. The station serves The Gainesville-Ocala market.

Goliath Radio Takes Management Of WELE   7-30-10
Big John owner of Goliath Radio, LLC will take over management of WELE-AM 1380 beginning Aug. 1. Big also announced local broadcast legend John E. Evans has joined the staff of WELE-AM. John will be doing editorials for Goliath Radio. Also, Doug Wilhite's Wings Communications' travel show is no longer affiliated with WELE. When the final approval of the license transfer comes from the FCC, WELE will change call letters.

Hearing More Pat Lynch On WJRR   7-31-10
Thanks to Bob Peters for letting us know Pat Lynch filled in part of this week for the "Crash on the Radio" (Russell Smith) show on WJRR-FM 101.1, while they took a vacation. Still no word on Taco Bob, however.
